Description
The Great Boba Lagoon, located north of Nagua, is part of a 15.4-kilometer wetland formed at the mouth of the Boba and Bacuí rivers, as well as a series of streams such as the Zanjón, the Lebrachos or the Garza. The ecosystem is made up of wetlands and mangroves, of which there are three types, the red mangrove, the white mangrove and the black maglar. There are also more than 11 species of flora characteristic of the coastal area.
The lagoon also stands out for the amount of fauna that inhabits it. It is worth mentioning the more than 30 species of fish, the 8 species of crustaceans and the 21 species of birds. The visitor can find reicongos, pallaretas, yaguazas, sandpipers and different types of herons, among many other birds.
A unique landscape on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, declared a protected area since 1995, where you can enjoy the fusion of fresh and saltwater ecosystems in a setting of incomparable natural beauty.
